Conversation with a Liberal friend

The following is a brief email volley with a liberal friend of mine. his name is being withheld to protect the igno...I mean innocent.

Liberal Friend: As for me, I've never been able to resolve "Thou shalt not kill" and any justification for war. I don't believe in capital punishment for the same reason.

Jesus said to love our enemies. With love comes understanding. With understanding comes negotiation. With negotiation comes peace. With peace, comes universal love; which is our human right and destiny. In my world-view, anyway.

My responce: Well, first it isn't "thou shalt not kill", that is not an accurate translation of the original Hebrew. It It is "thou shalt not murder". Murder is the purposeful taking of an innocent life....you know, like abortion for example. Capital punishment is presumably the taking of a guilty life.

Secondly, Islamic terrorists want you and I and all the other "infidels" dead. We want to be alive. How do you "negotiate" that? Give them one arm, two toes and an ear and call it even?

Jesus did say: ":Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" Mat 5:44 (which is personally one of the most difficult things for me to do as a Christian). But loving and praying for your enemy doesn't mean to sit there and let them kill you or your way of life. Jesus also said: "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? Mat 23:33. You might want to read all of Mathew 23 to see how Jesus felt about the religious leaders of his time. It doesn't seem to me that He is "negotiating" with them, other than telling them the cold hard truth.

The Conversation continues:

Friend: As one who has raised 3 children, I too believe that abortion takes an innocent life. I'm not about to go about killing a doctor, though, to prove my point.

Response: Neither would I or a vast majority of conservatives, and in fact I believe anyone who does this should be executed as the cold blooded murderer that they are. The right wing has it's share of nuts too.

Friend: Indisputably, it was murder of 3000 Americans when religious fanatics drove airplanes into buildings.

Is it not also murder that 10,000 Afghan civilians, and an equal number of Iraqi civilians were killed by American bombs in response to 9/11? Or are they "collateral" and not innocent?
Response: No, it isn't. Innocent civilians are not targeted by american bombs. The terrorists (who do not value any life) use the civilians for cover. And when civilians are unintentionally killed, the terrorists use their mangled bodies for propaganda purposes. And the media is happy to spread this propaganda. The United States spends millions of dollars to create "smart bombs" for the sole purpose of trying to prevent civilians from being killed. Do the terrorists have any "smart car bombs"? We could end the fighting in Fulluja this afternoon by leveling the city. But we don't. Do you think the terrorists have this kind of restraint?

Friend: Jesus wouldn't bomb the USA, because we're a "Christian" nation. But would he bomb Muslims?

Response: Jesus loves all humans and wants them all to see the truth of His word. But He will one day return to earth and judge each and every one of us. And those whose names are not written in the "Book of Life" will be separated from God for eternity. It will be worse for them than "bombing". And it doesn't matter if they are Americans, Indians, Arabs, Jews etc.etc.etc.

Friend: Somehow I don't think so.

Fanaticism meeting fanaticism results in death, suffering and loss, and ultimately, nobody wins.

Response: I agree. Now let me know how you are going to change the minds of the Islamic fanatics who hijacked planes and flew them into buildings BEFORE we went into Afghanistan and Iraq?

Friend: Einstein said, "The world we have made as a result of the level of thinking we have done thus far, creates problems that cannot be solved by that same level of thinking".

Response: Not relative. Einstein is dead.

Friend: Wouldn't we be better off by using the intelligence that God gave us rather than our anger and rage to solve problems?

Response: Who's angry?
